Atletico Madrid are expected to allow Inter target Sime Vrsaljko to leave the club this summer despite the Croatian’s impressive performances at the FIFA World Cup, according to Catalan sports paper Mundo Deportivo.
Vrsaljko overcame a knee problem to be part of the side that helped Croatia reach their first ever World Cup Final on Wednesday, providing the assist for Ivan Perisic’s equalising goal as Zlatko Dalic’s side defeated England 2-1 after extra-time.
However despite the right-back’s positive showing in Moscow, and despite a tournament which has seen his value grow again after an up-and-down season in Madrid, the Barcelona-based publication reported on Wednesday that Atletico have promised they will not stand in his way should he wish to depart this summer.
The 26 year-old has struggled for game-time under Diego Simeone since joining the La Liga outfit in 2016 and is known to want to return to Italy, where he spent three seasons between Genoa and Sassuolo earlier in his career.
Inter are the club most interested in acquiring Vrsaljko and have already agreed personal terms with the player, but must now make an offer that satisfies Atletico in order to seal a deal.
The Nerazzurri have offered a paid loan with an option to buy for an overall fee of €25 million, with further developments expected soon.
