In an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport, Mauro Icardi, Inter’s club captain whose contribution has come under scrutiny as of late, had the following to say after Inter barely managed to defeat SPAL in 2-1 tonight a game in which he scored both of the goals.

“This was a most important victory for us. We knew it was not going to be an easy task, last year we had a really hard time playing in this stadium. Tonight we managed to create a lot of chances. I scored 29 times last season, I am calm. I work hard in order to help my team and in order to help my teammates. If I score goals that is great, but the most important thing is how Inter is doing.”

After this win Inter remains at the third place in the table still trailing reigning champions Juventus by eight points. In the race for the Champions League spot, Inter have a two point gap on fifth placed Sampdoria.
