Having scored three goals in his first four Champions League games, Mauro Icardi’s test on the biggest club stage can be considered a test passed in the eyes of Gazzetta dello Sport.

Icardi is not the first, in fact he is the 45th player, to record such a feat but it has to be taken in to consideration that he has scored goals against both Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona, while some of the 44 before him scored theirs against – and with all due respect to them – lesser teams to those of the English and Spanish giants. The goal against Spurs in his Champions League debut turned his season around and he has scored seven goals in the nine games since in all competitions.

With such form, it again raises the question about his future with the club. Renewal or not, clubs may not be deterred in being interested in him but at the end of the day the final decision will of course come down to him.
