Ibrahimovic Recalls Mourinho’s Outburst At Him Whilst At Inter

In an interview with Bethard, former Inter striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has recalled an episode from his Nerazzurri career wherein Jose Mourinho criticised him in front of the entire team.

“I remember that at the end of the first half we were losing a match against Atalanta and the next day I had to receive a prize as best player in Serie A and José told me in front of the team that I should be ashamed of that recognition for the way I was playing.

” ‘You don’t deserve half of that prize,’ Mourinho said to me. We were in the dressing room and he massacred me, he hammered me. So I said, ‘Ok, I’m not doing well. Maybe I should do better.’ We still lost the game, but I scored a goal in the second half, softening the criticism.

“In my career I have had situations where I was hammered by coaches in different ways. The difference with Mourinho is that he likes to say it directly, he says it this way because it’s his personality.”
