Inter Haven’t Had Such High Average Attendances In Almost 20 Years

Inter have beaten last season’s average attendance total heading into the final game of the season this weekend at home to Empoli a report from Gazzetta dello Sport highlights.

Last season Inter finished the campaign with an average home attendance of 57,529 while this season they will breakthrough the 58,000 barrier.

The club have already announced that there has been such a demand for tickets for the season finale that they will open the third tier of San Siro thus meaning at least 65,000 will be there to cheer the Nerazzurri on, hopefully to the Champions League.

This season’s average attendance is affected by the stadium ban Inter were hit with following a portion of the crowd chanting racist abuse at Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly. Around 10,000 kids from the local area attended the match against Sassuolo – where the stadium was entirely shut off to anyone else – which obviously damages Inter’s yearly average but had this game not counted Inter would have an average of over 61,000.

The Milan based newspaper conclude by stating that Inter have not had such a high average attendance since the 2001/02 and 2002/03 seasons.
