Inter remain hopeful of resolving their dilemma surrounding Mauro Icardi by including him in a swap deal with Juventus for Paulo Dybala, Gazzetta dello Sport reported today.
The Nerazzurri are determined to sell their former captain this summer after a farcical end to the 2018-19 season, despite Icardi’s persistent claims he would like to stay at the club.
Atletico Madrid are monitoring the situation but Juventus remain the club most likely to sign him, although Dybala continues to express doubts over the idea of a swap deal.
“The swap would be the ideal solution for everyone,” Gazzetta asserted.
“Icardi would get his wish of staying in Italy and could become a top player again, Paulo could get the change of scenery he needed and both clubs could loosen the pressure on their balance sheets slightly.”
Inter would like to resolve Icardi’s future before the end of June so they could include the money from his sale in their financial report for the 2018-19 season, for which they still want to find €40 million in capital gains.
A quick solution would also enable new boss Antonio Conte to begin preseason training in July without any unnecessary off-field distractions.
“124 goals in 219 games can’t be forgotten overnight but Icardi’s fate seems to be decided,” Gazzetta added.
