Inter must aim to win trophies under Antonio Conte because Suning will no longer consider Champions League qualification enough, Corriere della Sera warned today.
Conte oversaw his first day of training yesterday as the Nerazzurri began a one-week summer camp in Switzerland, with severely restricted access for supporters and the media.
Club president Steven Zhang arrived in the afternoon to meet the players and lay down the law ahead of a demanding campaign.
“Zhang’s first full season in charge can’t not be exceptional,” the paper reported.
“It wasn’t a visit of courtesy he made yesterday. He came to fire the players up and tell them they will have to battle hard this season.”
Zhang has revamped Inter’s technical staff since becoming president, appointing Beppe Marotta as chief executive before signing Conte as head coach.
Inter will play their first preseason friendly against Lugano on Sunday before flying off to Asia for their summer tour.
