Manchester United must sell Romelu Lukaku before they can complete a deal to sign Harry Maguire from Leicester, according to the Irish Independent.
Inter have been pursuing the Belgian for weeks but United’s hard-line stance has made talks incredibly difficult for the Nerazzurri.
Juventus are now interested in Lukaku as well, with reports this weekend suggesting they will offer a swap deal with Paulo Dybala.
The paper today wrote: “It seems the sale of Lukaku to Inter Milan or Juventus could be the trigger that sees United make an acceptable offer for Maguire, with the Belgian striker posting an image on social media alongside his agent Federico Pastorello and hinting they had finally been given the green light to make a move to Italy.”
United have shown no sign of dropping their asking price for Lukaku thus far, with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward determined not to make a loss on the striker.
It remains to be seen whether the Red Devils can continue to play hardball over the 26-year-old’s future, though, now they need the funds to sign their first-choice target in defence.
