Inter’s failure to offload any of their unwanted squad players is behind their inability to sign Romelu Lukaku, according to Sky Sport.
The Nerazzurri seemed destined to secure the Manchester United striker after Antonio Conte made him his first-choice transfer target.
However, Juventus have since overtaken Inter by offering Paulo Dybala in return, with both clubs now ‘optimistic’ about finalising a deal.
The Bianconeri’s sporting director Fabio Paratici is in England this evening to make further progress in their talks with the Red Devils.
Inter will remain vigilant in case Juve and United’s negotiations falter, but the club must now turn their attention to securing Edin Dzeko from Roma.
Mauro Icardi can no longer join the Italian champions with Lukaku’s imminent arrival, so he could reconsider a move to the Giallorossi.
Ante Rebic is a potential alternative option to Lukaku, but the Eintracht Frankfurt man is likely to cost €40 million.
Edinson Cavani may represent a more popular idea, but with Dzeko already incoming Inter would be committing themselves to signing two players over 30.
Neither Cavani nor Paris Saint-Germain have registered an interesting in making a deal happen yet, although other sources have suggested El Matador is keen.
Inter would then need to sign another left wing-back in order to complete their squad, following Conte’s failed experiment with Ivan Perisic, as well as sell all the players their new boss no longer wants.
