In an interview with the French edition of Hypebeast, Mauro Icardi has spoken on how life has gone at loan club Paris Saint Germain.
“It was very special to score a brace against Marseille. It’s been two months since I arrived and playing my first derby scoring two goals and getting a great victory was great in the end.
“My integration has went very well. As soon as I arrived, everyone welcomed me, especially the Spanish-speaking players. I communicate in English with the non-Spanish speakers. Everyone helps me every day. If I need something, they are there for me. My integration was done very quickly thanks to my teammates.
“In the first game I played at the Parc des Princes, the fans showed me their support as soon as I warmed up. It was very moving for me. I want to do my best for them.”
He was then asked if he has set any goal targets for himself.
“I have never set myself targets but of course, as I always say, it is important for a striker to score goals. What matters to me is that my goals will help us win games and above all silverware. This is what I’m concentrating on, not the total number of goals I will score.
“It is true that last year was not easy for me even though I had the opportunity to play many games and score a few goals. My ambition is to keep improving and I want to continue to be one of the most important strikers in the world. I can do it only by scoring as many goals as possible and working harder and harder to reach my goals. That’s all that matters to me.”
Icardi also spoke on the impact that his move has had on his family.
“Since we are a big family with five children, change is more complicated for them. They are still at school in Milan and join me here during the holidays. We didn’t want to change everything for them but all is good and when I have free time, I join them in Milan, where we still have our home.”
He was also asked about how he deals with pressure from the media.
“I am a person who does not suffer much from the pressure, I suffered a lot in Argentina and Italy. It is a habit, something that constantly accompanies me. This is the game and the price to pay you have to pay for being known but I am calm. The pressure does not concern me at all.”
