Inter Defender Godin: “We Struggled In The First Half But The Game Opened Up After The First Goal”

After Matias Vecino and Antonio Conte, Inter centre back Diego Godin spoke with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia to reflect on Inter’s 2-0 away win over Ludogorets in tonight’s Europa League round of 32 first leg match.

Christian Eriksen opened the scoring for Inter with around 20 minutes left in the match with an effort from outside the box which was in fact his first goal for the club since his arrival in January.

Second half substitute Romelu Lukaku doubled Inter’s lead and notched his 22nd goal of the season across all competitions as he scored a penalty in the final minutes of the match at the Ludogorets Arena in Razgrad.

Godin, who joined Inter this past Summer on a free transfer, started the interview by discussing their opponents and the Nerazzurri’s performance.

“We faced a great opponents, who have been winning in Bulgaria for years now. In the first half we struggled to find space while in the second half we increased the tempo and the game opened after the first goal.”

He then quickly praised those who came into the starting line-up: “Today players who have had less space played they were good. It is important to give alternatives to Conte.”

In conclusion he spoke on Eriksen and his adaption.

“It is never easy to get into another type of football. I had to adapt too. Eriksen is intelligent and will certainly do what the manager wants, he just needs time to work. Conte’s game demands a lot on a physical level.”
