Arsenal Manager Arteta On Inter Linked Aubameyang: “We Will Try To Convince Him To Stay”

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has admitted he hopes he can convince to remain club captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to remain with the club amid links elsewhere.

The Gabonese striker’s contract with the north London based club is due to expire at the end of next season and reports have suggested he has no interest in signing a contract extension.

This has led to some reports suggesting Arsenal will be forced into selling him this coming Summer due to the fact that next January he would be free to sign a pre-contract agreement with the club of his choosing.

Inter are one of several clubs to have been linked with him.

“I think it has been tough for him, a player like him has had a lot of disappointments over the last few years because he has big expectations, he wants to play for the biggest club, in the biggest tournaments, and be up there with the best players in the world,” Arteta remarked to the media following Arsenal’s 3-2 home win over Everton yesterday.

“We have to try to support him and try to give him everything as a club so that he feels fulfilled here. That is the challenge we have.

“He is our most important player. There’s no question about the impact he has on this team, so if the club and I can, we will try to convince him to stay.”

This season the 30-year-old, who has been with the Gunners since January 2018, has made 30 appearances across all competitions to date. In just over 2500 minutes on the field, the former AC Milan academy player has contributed 19 goals and has provided a single assist.
