Serie A will continue as planned although many games are set to be played behind closed doors amid concerns over the potential spreading of the Coronavirus according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.
There are in excess of 220 confirmed cases of the virus in Italy at the moment with the north of the country the worst affected with several towns having been placed into complete lock down for the next two weeks.
Matches in Piedmont, Liguria, Veneto, Lombardy, Friuli Venezia Giulia and Emilia Romagna are set to be played behind closed doors this coming weekend meaning Juventus vs Inter, Sampdoria vs Verona, Sassuolo vs Brescia, AC Milan vs Genoa, Parma vs Spal and Udinese vs Fiorentina are all to be affected.
Lazio vs Bologna, Napoli vs Torino, Cagliari vs Roma and Lecce vs Atalanta are not affected and will have fans in attendance.
The report from the Milan based newspaper goes on to highlight that South Korea have delayed the start of their league campaign due to the outbreak and there is a fear in Italy that the league may need to be stopped.
