Inter could be forced into changing their focus elsewhere with Dries Mertens looking more likely to pen a contract extension with Napoli according to a report from CalcioMercato.com.
The Nerazzurri club have a long standing interest in the Belgian international attacker, whose contract with Napoli is due to expire at the end of this season.
Inter are understood to have been monitoring the situation of the former PSV Eindhoven player closely and some reports have even suggested that Inter have tabled him a contract offer but this report suggests that they might need to change their strategy and start looking elsewhere to bolster their attack which could see plenty of changes soon.
As per the report, only Romelu Lukaku is certain to stay at Inter next season with the futures of Lautaro Martinez, Sebastiano Esposito and Alexis Sanchez all up in the air.
Lautaro has drawn strong links to Barcelona in particular, Esposito is expected to be loaned out next season and Sanchez is more than likely going to head back to Manchester United at the end of his loan.
