Vanheusden’s Father: “He Isn’t Ready For Inter Yet, I Hope He Stays At Standard For Another Year”

Johan Vanheusden, the father of Inter owned youngster Zinho Vanheusden, has insisted that his son is not yet ready for Inter and should stay with Standard Liege, the club he currently finds himself on loan at.

“At the moment he is very happy at Standard. It’s his boyhood club and his attention is on the second half of the season with them,” he said in an interview with FCInterNews.it.

“Last season he arrived after his injury that had kept him out for seven months and he was not expected to play so much. Standard were playing really well so it was only normal that the coach didn’t swap out the normal starting players. Zinho had to earn his place in the team and since he did it back in November, he has played every minute of every game since.”

He then proceeded to talk about the recent public praise his son received from manager Michel Preud’Homme.

“It was nice to hear such words expressed on national TV by an icon of my country, as well as by one of the most respected managers in Belgium. We were flattered. but the day after Zinho took to the field to work even harder to improve. He obviously accepts the compliments but remains focused on his goal. His goal is to play at high levels for both Standard and for the national team.”

Vanheusden’s loan with Les Rouges is up at the end of the season but his father would like to see him remain a little while longer.

“I would certainly prefer it if he were to stay another twelve months in Belgium at Standard. He obviously wants to return to Inter but before competing there he needs a few seasons her in order to get strong and stronger. The Belgian league is not easy and is an excellent place for him to progress.

“He is not yet ready to play for Inter. In order to play a whole season in a club as big as Inter everything must go perfectly. That day will come but now it’s too early for him.

“Playing for Inter is his main goal but first he must measure himself here as a centre back and progress step by step. This is why he needs some time. He is scared by the idea of not playing so it is better for him to take to the field regularly rather than sitting on the bench at a top club like the Nerazzurri.”

He concluded the interview by speaking on if he’s spoken with Inter about his future.

“We know that Inter follows his progress closely. We have a very good relationship with Piero Ausilio and we are grateful for everything he did for Zinho. Inter is an intelligent club, so we know that they will allow their player to play in an environment where he is happy and where he can improve every day. My son will reward Ausilio and Spalletti on the playing field on the day he returns to the Nerazzurri.”
