Inter and Milan have not submitted their planning application to build a new San Siro yet, the mayor of Milan confirmed today.
Both clubs want to knock down the current ground and build a more modern version on the same area of land, but they require permission from the city council.
The application is due to be handed over this week but Sala confirmed the council were still waiting.
“There are no updates,” he was quoted as saying by Calcio e Finanza.
Sala also confirmed the council were open to the idea of Atalanta playing their Champions League fixtures at San Siro.
Gazzetta dello Sport today said Inter had given the green light but the Bergamaschi need a ‘yes’ from Milan too.
“It seems like a nice idea to me and I’m very much in favour of it,” Sala added.
“I promise Atalanta I will go and watch their first match if they come to San Siro. They’re a lovely team and their management has my support.”
