In an interview with Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu refused to comment on detail on the speculation linking them with moves for Neymar and Lautaro Martinez.
Ever since Neymar departed the club for Paris Saint Germain a few season ago reports have linked him with a return to the Nou Camp whilst reports have also suggested that they have taken a keen interest in signing Inter’s Lautaro Martinez as a long term replacement for Luis Suarez.
Whilst Bartomeu did praise both players as part of the interview, he was very reluctant to go into detail about the club’s transfer plans for the Summer and beyond.
“It’s the recurring question that everyone has asked us since last year but I already said it. Until we have meetings and plan the following season, this topic will not be discussed,” he explained.
“Now we are very aware of what we can do this January, there have been some departures and some arrivals but we have not spoken about next season and even if it had been spoken about, I could not speak about it. We are always open to everything.
“I prefer not to talk about players from other teams. One is in Italy and the other in France. They are both great young footballers, with great futures ahead of them but it is premature to talk about the coming season.”
Lautaro is under contract with Inter until the end of the 2022/23 season and has a €111 million release clause in his contract, which is valid only for the first two weeks every July. As per various reports, Inter are keen to sign him to a new deal and will try to remove the clause.
