Dries Mertens wants guarantees regarding Napoli’s ambitions as they look to tie him down to a new contract according to a report from TuttoMercatoWeb.

The Belgian international attacker’s contract with the Stadio San Paolo club is due to expire at the end of this season and this has led to several clubs, including Inter, showing an interest in the possibility of picking him up on a free transfer this Summer.

Napoli do not want to lose the 32-year-old attacker, who is on the verge of becoming their record all time top goalscorer.

They are prepared to offered him a new two year contract with the same salary he currently earns whilst it is understood that Mertens would like a three year deal and a signing bonus of around €5 million.

Moreover, the report states that the former PSV Eindhoven player wants to know what the club’s ambitions for the future are.

This season he has made 23 appearances across all competitions, in which he has scored 10 goals and provided four assists.
