Inter Manager Conte: “I’m Happy For Eriksen, We Must Try To Go As Far As Possible”

In an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, Inter manager Antonio Conte reflected on Inter’s 2-0 win away to Ludogorets in the first leg of their Europa League tie with the Bulgarians.

“In the first half they defended very deep and we adapted to the situation. In the second half we upped the intensity and the ball was moved faster. We managed to score goals and create several scoring chances.”

Next he was asked about the tactical experimentation during the latter stages of the game which saw his side go to what appeared to be a 4-4-2 system with a diamond in the midfield:We are trying out some solutions to try to have alternatives.”

He then went on to discuss Christian Eriksen who scored his first goal for the club in his second start following his arrival during the recent January transfer window from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.

“He has to work, he needs to. He can do much better than what was seen today. Scoring goal always breeds confidence and I’m happy for him.

“He must find the form he had at Tottenham. He still hasn’t found the right physical condition either, but we are calm and have no worries about him.

“We know we have signed a player who can raise our quality. We need to be calm and patient for the good of Inter. I will play him in the right way and at the right time. He can certainly do better, like the whole team. ”

Next the former Italian national team manager spoke on what he intends to use Inter’s participation in the Europa League for and the club’s goals for the competition.

“We will use this competition to give space to those who have played less. We must try to go as far as possible, continuing on this journey. This competition can crush you. There was a good response from the players tonight. In the first half we were slow and not very intense, in the second half the music changed.”

In conclusion Conte was asked if he could possibly provide an update on the condition of injured goalkeeper and club captain Samir Handanovic, who has missed Inter’s past few matches due to injury.

“Handanovic’s situation is to be monitored day by day. We have confidence in Padelli, when Handanovic is ready he will take his place, otherwise we have trust in Padelli.”
